Academics


The International Studies (INTS) degree provides an interdisciplinary curriculum that captures the broad range of social, political, cultural and economic forces at play in an increasingly interdependent world. Students take courses in a number of different departments. These are linked by language, topic and region.  In general, INTS majors must take:
  1. Foreign Language (choose one):
    • French; Italian; Russian; Spanish; German; Chinese; Japanese; Arabic; or Portuguese
  2. INTS Core Courses - culminating in a senior thesis
  3. Career emphasis tracks (choose one):
    • International Politics and Diplomacy
    • International Commerce
    • International Communication and Media Studies
    • International Arts and Culture
    • International Environmental Studies
  4. Geographic Specialization (choose one related to your foreign language):
    • Latin America
    • Europe
    • Africa
    • North Africa/Middle East
    • Asia
  5. University Core Curriculum (english, math, science, humanities, etc.)
  6. International Experience Abroad
    • Class work is enhanced by a related International Experience with an emphasis on cultural and language immersion. Students must spend at least 10-14 continuous weeks abroad studying in an academic program or working for internship credit in a business, government agency, or non-profit organization.
Graduation: Upon graduation, INTS majors will have the language proficiency, analytical skills, substantive knowledge, and cultural sensitivity necessary for work in government, academia, or international business.  All INTS graduates are awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies.
